肥不好嗎?連emoji的「肥樣」也被嫌棄?美國紐約慈善組織Endangered Bodies,在全球連署網頁(Change.org petition)發起聯署,要求社交網站Facebook取消「feeling fat」的emoji貼圖,僅兩個多星期已獲逾16萬人簽名支持。

CNN報道,發起連署活動的組織者之一 Catherine Weingarten解釋,「feeling fat」的貼圖有嘲笑肥胖者的意外,尤其是某些患有狂吃症的病患,並容易讓有肥胖困擾的人產生負面情緒。

When Facebook users set their status to “feeling fat,” they are making fun of people who consider themselves to be overweight, which can include many people with eating disorders. That is not ok. Join me in asking Facebook to remove the “fat” emoji from their status options.

組織指,胖並不是一個感覺,胖是生理構造的一個現象,身體型態應被尊重及給予更多關心。

Fat is not a feeling. Fat is a natural part of our bodies, no matter their weight. And all bodies deserve to be respected and cared for.

美國《時代》周刊報道,Facebook發表聲明稱,他們透過社群得悉「feeling fat」可能會對部分用戶產生負面情緒,特別是對因患病而導致身體肥胖的人,因此決定將「feeling fat」的emoji移除。

We’ve heard from our community that listing ‘feeling fat’ as an option for status updates could reinforce negative body image, particularly for people struggling with eating disorders. So we’re going to remove ‘feeling fat’ from the list of options

消息對於抗議團體來說是場勝利,抗議團體的發起者寫道:「這場勝利顯示,人們能夠向破壞身體健康,以及阻礙人們關愛自己的文化信息宣戰,並獲得與自己和睦相處的自由。」
